Third Annual Glastonbury Greatest Pumpkin Weigh-in Set for September 30th
Come to Melzen’s Farm Supply to See Glastonbury’s Greatest Pumpkin!
The Land Heritage Coalition of Glastonbury of Glastonbury, Inc. (LHC) in partnership with Melzen Farm Supply is sponsoring the third annual Glastonbury Greatest Pumpkin Program weigh-in on Saturday, September 30th, beginning at 1:30 p.m. The main attraction at this event will be the giant pumpkins that folks in and around town have been nurturing all summer long, but this will be an exciting event for everyone whether they grew a pumpkin or not! In addition to the friendly competition for largest pumpkin – with prizes for the heaviest – there will be food and fun for the whole family with balloons, games, music, and activities for children.
“The weigh-in is scheduled for 2:15 p.m. and is culmination of a program that started last spring,” stated David Ahlgren, co-president of the LHC. “Our purpose in developing this event has been to encourage citizens of all ages to enjoy fruitful gardening using organic methods,” Ahlgren continued. To support this aim, Melzen’s Farm Supply distributed seeds at no charge to anyone wishing to grow pumpkins. “While we hope that folks have learned a bit about gardening and growing organically, our goal was to make this a fun project,” Melzen said.
The last two weigh-ins have been great, family events. Folks enjoyed the food and camaraderie and kids had fun with pumpkin decorating, cookie decorating, ring-toss, and more. This year should provide even more of the same! Here’s the skinny on the event:
